2nd Anniversary - A journal entry

April 26th, 2009

2pm - Thank you so much for checking us in early! We knew what to expect this year and like school children filled with giddy, we paid no mind to time. After arriving to town we made a bee line for the Munchen Haus, my husbands favorite. Then straight to the lodge! This year we are doubly spoiling ourselves in the Cascade Suite.

Worth every penny! We are now eagerly biding our time till Tom’s feast this evening. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for food.

9pm – Is there anything more blissful than napping to Tommy Dorsey and Sinatra? If so, I’m sure it too will be found here that the Mountain Home Lodge.

After a quick shower, I slipped into my new Alice and Olivia dress. (If I am to rival this beautiful setting, this dress will be key.) Then it is off to dinner where Chef Tom spoiled us with fresh Atlantic salmon covered in a lemon burre blanc, jasmine rice and vanilla glazed carrots. He then topped that by serving a flourless chocolate torte topped with freshly made whipped cream. I could die happy right now.

8pm – Aaaagh, another fantastic day! This morning Chef Tom started us out on the right foot with a delicious eggs benedict. Remembering that I’m a vegetarian, he placed my eggs over some lovely asparagus. We then scurried off for a morning hike with the neighboring pups. Even old Bailey joined us for the first bit. After a quick shower we headed out for a drive and to stop in to town at Schocolat per Brad’s recommendation. –This is a must! – I’ve never tasted chocolates so fine. I just don’t thing 24 pieces is enough.

For dinner this evening, we opted for Viscontes, another gem of a find. For now, it is off to the hot tub and then into bed. Mountain Home Lodge truly is a 1000ft closer to heaven.

11am – I am fairly certain that Chef Tom tried to kill us with French toast this morning. Why else would you make it with croissants? We did manage to hobble off for a little hike, despite being stuffed to the gills with gooey goodness. Sherman, Charlie and Winston (the lodge pups) were kind enough to accompany us again.

We now have the truck pack up, so with heavy hearts and rested souls we say fair well for another year.

A special thank you to Brand, Kathy and Chef Tom for another magical anniversary, you are among the best at what you do.

1st Anniversary!

We did it!! We made it a year without killing each other...and oi, what a year it was! To celebrate we took off to Leavenworth for the weekend to stay at the Mt. Home Lodge. We've already booked our room for next year, that's how much we loved it. We left for our weekend early Saturday morning and upon arrival made a bee-line for the Munchen Haus for lunch. Extra kraut please! With full bellies we meandered over the ale festival. An 'ale' of a party is right! LOL! By 4pm, we were pretty well tuckered out on beer and decided to headed up to the lodge to check in and get ready for dinner, which was exceptional! With our bellies topped off again we decided to call it a night. Sunday morning we headed out for a 9mi hike and were uber pleased when one of the resident doggies decided to join us. Image the laugh we had when we learned our new friends name just happened to be Winston! After cleaning up we enjoyed a light lunch that chef Tom had prepared for us and then headed into town to boggie-foot around. For Sunday's dinner we opted for the German experience and went to Cafe Motzart. Linguini Toscana - Yum, Yum! The rest of the night was spent in the hot tube at the lodge sipping Veuve Clicquot and staring at the stars. We nearly had the whole place to ourselves with the exception of the nice couple who turns out are nearly our neighbors. Monday morning came to quickly and we had to pack up and head back to reality. Once back home we cuddled the puppies and enjoyed an at-home-meal. I'd made up some artichoke Parmesan crustini's, creamy tomato pasta with champagne we received on our wedding day...and of course some wedding cake. It was an absolutely spectacular weekend!

Goodbye...

Why is it so hard? My poor husband has had to say goodbye to his grandmother just recently. Fred's mother, Julia, left us late yesterday afternoon. Please keep her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they travel to pay their respects. The memorial service will be this Thursday at Motyka Funeral Home: 2186 Main Street, Three Rivers, MA. Classic's

Our dear friend Julie is home from the big apple for the week, so we ran out to see her and hang out at Classics on Saturday night. So good to see you girly! BTW - What is it about a dive bar that pulls at the heart strings? I know it's not the one stall bathroom, the sticky floor, or the frigid temperature inside...but still, I can't get enough!

Thanks for the great time gals!
