Toss out all your old notions on airing out laundry! Clean laundry that is. Once a symbol of the impoverished, air drying clothing is now viewed with an approving nod and a quick thumbs up. Why the change of heart? Let us review.

Environment: As we become increasingly aware of our impact on the earth, it is important to realize how much every little bit helps. By line drying you can reduce your carbon foot print by .4 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Budget: Speaking of every little bit helps, an average load of laundry cost $.34 to dry. Just think about those days when the dryer is running non-stop. It add up fast!

$20 dollars today

In continued efforts to demonstrate what you can get for a $20 dollar bill, I present my latest find. A Linea Pelle belt originally sold at $225, now on sale for $30 on the Linea Pelle website. By using a $25 gift certificate errend from referring friends I was able to grab it for just $14.54 after shipping. Since standard shipping is FexEx 3-day, I'll have it in my hot little hand on Tuesday. Not to shabby for less than $20! ...now, if only I didn't have to turn around and sell it.

$20 dollars today

Over and over I hear how $20 won't get you anything these days. I adamantly disagree. It is not easy but trust me, those dollars are stretchy. While it's taken a series of hard lessons for me to learn this I feel fortunate to be learning now while there is time to change and rebuild. The perception gained is invaluable. I find my appreciation for the simple this growing. My admiration for the penny-wise ways of Grandma deepening in a manner that is nearly spiritual. She made it seem so effortless. I find myself wishing I could tell, "I get it now."

Here is how I spent my $20 dollars today:

3 Skintamate Shave Creams - $.75/piece
3 Edge Shave Gels - $.75/piece
6 Fresh Express Salad Kits - $1.25/pack
1 Sargento's Shredded Cheese - Free
2 Dairygold Butters - $2/pack
2 Dairygold Half n' Half's - $1.33/quart
1 Dairygold Milk - $1.33/half gallon
2 Sabra Hummas - $1.50/tub
5 Lowry's Marinades - $.50/bottle
3 Sweet Baby Ray's - Free

Plus a $6 off general merchandise coupon. After tax that is a grand total of $19.66 for a savings of 81%.

Oh, and don't forget that 10 cent gas credit that was earned.

2nd Anniversary - A journal entry

April 26th, 2009

2pm - Thank you so much for checking us in early! We knew what to expect this year and like school children filled with giddy, we paid no mind to time. After arriving to town we made a bee line for the Munchen Haus, my husbands favorite. Then straight to the lodge! This year we are doubly spoiling ourselves in the Cascade Suite.

Worth every penny! We are now eagerly biding our time till Tom’s feast this evening. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for food.

9pm – Is there anything more blissful than napping to Tommy Dorsey and Sinatra? If so, I’m sure it too will be found here that the Mountain Home Lodge.

After a quick shower, I slipped into my new Alice and Olivia dress. (If I am to rival this beautiful setting, this dress will be key.) Then it is off to dinner where Chef Tom spoiled us with fresh Atlantic salmon covered in a lemon burre blanc, jasmine rice and vanilla glazed carrots. He then topped that by serving a flourless chocolate torte topped with freshly made whipped cream. I could die happy right now.

April 27th, 2009

8pm – Aaaagh, another fantastic day! This morning Chef Tom started us out on the right foot with a delicious eggs benedict. Remembering that I’m a vegetarian, he placed my eggs over some lovely asparagus. We then scurried off for a morning hike with the neighboring pups. Even old Bailey joined us for the first bit. After a quick shower we headed out for a drive and to stop in to town at Schocolat per Brad’s recommendation. –This is a must! – I’ve never tasted chocolates so fine. I just don’t thing 24 pieces is enough.

For dinner this evening, we opted for Viscontes, another gem of a find. For now, it is off to the hot tub and then into bed. Mountain Home Lodge truly is a 1000ft closer to heaven.

April 28th, 2009

11am – I am fairly certain that Chef Tom tried to kill us with French toast this morning. Why else would you make it with croissants? We did manage to hobble off for a little hike, despite being stuffed to the gills with gooey goodness. Sherman, Charlie and Winston (the lodge pups) were kind enough to accompany us again.

We now have the truck pack up, so with heavy hearts and rested souls we say fair well for another year.

A special thank you to Brand, Kathy and Chef Tom for another magical anniversary, you are among the best at what you do.

Jennifer and Scott
